Meet Brings Cross Country Surprises
September 11, 2010
Due West, SC - The North Greenville University men’s and women’s cross country running team got off to an incredible start for the season by participating in the Erskine Invitational on Saturday, September 11.
Running under the rain on a sloppy trail, runners posted solid times for the first run of the season. Coach Sepko was very satisfied with the training and effort put out by both teams. "For the first run we did not expect any excellent results because of several injuries in the team but only an experience (especially for freshmen) to another races in the season, but...what a surprise when our #1 runner, Andrew Mostelller, got lost at the race (no signs showing the route of the race) and still North Greenville University men’s cross country team placed the 1st place.” Freshman Ben Wade was the top runner for the Crusaders finishing 8th overall with a time of 31:23. Junior James Lind ran the course only a second behind his teammate finishing 9th place and the 3rd fastest runner from NGU, Jonathan Eastridge, finished with a time of 33:04 (11th place).
In the women’s run, Currie Dickerson placed seventh for the Crusaders, completing the 4-mile distance in 22:36, and her teammate, Samantha Mayo, was only 10 seconds behind her finishing 8th overall with a time of 22:46. As a team, the women finished 3rd out of all teams.
"We feel satisfied if we run as well as we think we can run," North Greenville University assistant coach Tomas Kurhajec said. "We have been blessed with a lot of talent this year and we do not want to waste this gift that has been given to us."
