Crusaders Split Conference Doubleheader With Barton

Wilson, NC – After rallying from a 4-1 deficit in game one of a Conference Carolinas doubleheader at Barton College, the NGU softball team scored two runs in the sixth inning, and had the go-ahead run on second base, but could not get the winner in as Barton held on to take game one 4-3. NGU bounced back in game two by smashing 13 hits and freshman Cassi Carpenter (Peachland, NC) tossed a two-hitter to lead the Crusaders to a 10-0 victory. NGU ran its season record to 21-9 and is now 16-4 in CC western division action.
Coach Sarah Hall’s club drew within a run in the sixth inning of the first game when Sarah Armstrong drove in a run with a single and Kendra Epting scored on an error. NGU put two runners on in the top of the 7th, but Barton pitcher Kendall Street got Kimberly Robertson to ground out back to the mound to end the game. Sarah Armstrong went 3-4 with an RBI and Amy Nagel was 1-3 with an RBI. Rachel Glazebrook (11-4) absorbed the loss.
North Greenville bounced back strong in game two, by ripping 13 hits in the 10-0 victory. Carpenter had one of her best games with the two-hitter in raising her record to 4-2. Nine NGU players had a hit in the big win, and Courtney Campbell was 2-4, Glazebrook was 2-3, Kansas Wofford went 2-4 and Hillary key was 2-3.
The Crusaders still maintain a two-game lead for first in CC’s western division over Erskine with but two home games against Pfeiffer this coming Saturday, April 14 at 1:00 p.m. remaining before the conference tournament April 19 in Sumter, SC.
