NGU'S WILLY KORN MAINTAINS HIGH HOPES FOR NFL DRAFT
April 16, 2012

Korn concluded his two-year tenure as the starting quarterback for the North
Greenville University football team, like many college seniors, his sights
turned toward something he’d been dreaming about since he was a youngster – the
NFL draft.
“You only have to find one
person who really likes you,” Korn said about his opportunities at the next
level.
After participating in pro days
at Clemson and Coastal Carolina, Korn caught the eye of several NFL scouts,
most recently one from the Green Bay Packers. According to Korn, the same scout saw him at both tryouts
and hopefully, will be the one who ‘really likes him.’ “I don’t have any clue at this point
what’s going to happen,” he said. “They’ve told my agent that they like me a lot, but that can mean lots
of things. Right now, it’s the
same as a high school kid being recruited by colleges. It all sounds great, but nothing
matters until the offer is made.” (Korn was featured in an extensive story by Bill Huber from
PackerReport.com and published on scout.com).
Korn remains diligent about
being in shape should his NFL opportunity present itself. “I’ve moved home and am working with
the strength coach at Byrnes High School right now,” he added. “Nothing is guaranteed; I just have to
keep working and wait to see what happens in a couple of weeks.”
Korn, who was the first NGU
offensive player to be named to the NCAA Division II Super Region Two Second
Team, led North Greenville to an 11-3 record last season and a berth in the
national championship quarterfinals. He set numerous offensive records during his two seasons in Tigerville
and noted that playing for the Crusaders basically saved him. “When I came to NGU, I was pretty down
because of the injuries I suffered at Clemson. I had lost my confidence, but the coaching staff at North
Greenville worked me back into it, and I learned how to really just have fun
playing football again.”
The 2012 NFL draft will be held
on Thursday, April 26 with ESPN televising the first round selections. The second and third rounds will be
Friday, April 27, and the fourth through seventh rounds will be Saturday, April
28. Or, you can follow the picks
at nfl.com.
Willy Korn concluded that some
of the quarterbacks projected to go in the draft are very talented, but he said
that no one will outwork him. “I
100 percent believe that I can make an NFL team if I’m given the opportunity,”
he said confidently. With that,
Willy and a lot of his teammates and fans at North Greenville will waiting
anxious to hopefully hear next week, “the Green Bay Packers select Willy Korn from North Greenville University in
the {any round}.”
