Tigerville, S.C.—The North Greenville men’s basketball team improved to 5-3 on the season Friday night with a 77-74 win over a hot shooting Johnson and Wales team.
The Crusaders lead by as much as eight points in the first half however the Wildcats of Jonson and Wales fought themselves back into the contest shooting 58.3 percent from 3 point range. The Wildcats tied the game at 21 at the nine minute mark of the first period and took a four point lead going into intermission. J.A.W held the lead for 10 minutes of the second half until the Crusaders took the lead at the 10:30 mark on a three pointer by Zack Shields.
North Greenville would build a ten point lead with eight minutes left only to see the Wildcats battle back to within one point with 1:49 left in the game. The Crusaders however would weather the storm capitalizing on second chance points and free throws to win the game 77-74.
Leading scorer for North Greenville was forward Paul Harrison who tallied 20 points while collecting 7 rebounds. Forward Kyler Vitko scored 16 points and collected 8 rebounds while Luke Lattimer and Zack Shields both scored 11. Shields also went 3 for 8 from the 3 point line.
“This was a good win against a very athletic and well drilled team tonight,” said head coach Chad Lister, “we entered the first half with a lack of energy but we responded well and played hard.” The win puts the Crusaders two games over .500 with one game left on the 2009 slate Tuesday night at home against Florida Tech University at 7:30.
