JV SOCCER EARNS FIRST WIN OF 2012

By Cory Guinn

Black Mountain, NC – After opening the season with a draw, the North Greenville JV soccer team put a game in the win column with a 3-2 victory over the Cavaliers of Montreat College of Thursday night.

Montreat opened the game with an early goal in the 13th minute to gain a one goal advantage before the Crusaders tied the game in the 20th minute on an unassisted goal from freshman Asa Wolfe to make the score 1-1 going into the half.

After a second half of scoreless action, the Cavaliers went ahead with a goal in the 75th minute until sophomore Julian Sanchez evened the score at 2-2 on an assist from senior James Lobbestael.

The game-winning goal came from the foot of junior Bryce Harrison who received a punt from goalkeeper Andrew Duncan and drove the ball into the back of the net to give the Crusaders their first win of the season.

The Crusaders outshot Montreat 13-12 as Duncan recorded two saves in the game and picked up his first career win.

“Our guys did a great job of not giving up especially when we were down a goal,” said head coach Kyle Walden. “They did a great job of keeping their composure and coming back to win this game.”

North Greenville (1-0-1) will be on the pitch again on Monday, September 10 as they host Anderson University at 6:30 p.m. in their 2012 home opener.
